Rick Landers

Some things are just meant to be. When I was kid my parents tried to teach me my left from my right using the initials in my name. They could never figure out why I insisted on holding a pencil and drawing with my left hand. They eventually gave up molding me after themselves and left me to use the right side of my brain to quietly create my three-year-old masterpieces.

I think I first noticed graphic design as a kid when I picked up a copy of my dad’s Xerox annual report and noticed a set of hand-rendered letterforms. I practiced recreating them myself over and over, beginning my appreciation for typography. Today I adapt that same lesson of study and intricacy by consciously applying a detailed sense of character, style, and interaction into all of my projects.

RL BlocksFor the first 5 years of my design career, I earned my stripes working in a number of design studios in Philadelphia. During my time with each studio, I was involved in projects ranging from identity development to annual reports, as well as toy and consumer product package design. In an effort to push myself to the next level and work on projects involving 3-D and interactive design, I accepted enrollment at the School of Visual Arts in New York City where I earned my MFA in design in 2006.
